William Folorunso Kumuyi was born on June 6, 1941, in Nigeria. He grew up in an Anglican home where the Bible, prayer, hymns, and regular church attendance were part of family life.

Call to Ministry

He became deeply interested in Scripture and read the works of Christian teachers and writers including John Wesley, Charles Finney, and Charles Spurgeon. He also became involved with Scripture Union.

His growing interest in Bible teaching eventually led to a small Bible study fellowship while he was working as a Mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos.

Ministry and Work

In 1973, fifteen university students asked Kumuyi to teach them the Scriptures. He began a Bible study group with them in his Lagos home. The group focused on systematic Bible study and practical Christian living.

The small fellowship grew steadily. By the early 1980s, it had developed into a much larger Christian movement, and Deeper Life Bible Church was formally established.

Kumuyi became the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. Under his leadership, the ministry expanded beyond Nigeria and established churches and Christian work in many countries.
