About This Message
Sex, Power, Riches and Materialism is a crusade message by Billy Graham, preached at the Williams-Brice Stadium Crusade in Columbia, South Carolina, on the emptiness of life without Christ and the greater wisdom, pleasure, riches, and power found in Him.
Graham takes his text from Matthew 12, where Jesus says, “a greater than Solomon is here.” He then holds up Solomon’s life as a mirror of the modern search for meaning. Solomon had the greatest knowledge, every pleasure, immense wealth, and unmatched power. He also built a magnificent temple. Yet he looked back on it all and called it vanity, a bubble that bursts. Graham sets this beside the loneliness and lack of purpose he saw in young people, and the world’s chase after knowledge, pleasure, money, and status.
He then shows why Christ is greater than Solomon in wisdom, in joy, in riches, and in power. The message closes with Solomon’s own conclusion in Ecclesiastes 12 and an invitation to come to Christ.

Key Scripture
Matthew 12:42
“The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.”
This is the verse the whole message turns on: everything Solomon pursued and found empty is found in full in Christ.
